LEARN MORE ABOUT FACE LIFTING
WHO IS RECOMMENDED FOR A FACE LIFTING / RHYTIDECTOMY?
Anyone with sagging skin, wrinkles, or depressions/furrows may be a candidate for a facelift. In fact, there is no ideal age for a facelift; there are ideal candidates (whose age may vary).

Therefore, the ideal candidate will be one with moderate skin sagging (which is no longer indicated for other non-invasive treatments), with wrinkles, furrows, or depressions across the face, with the accumulation of fat in the "double chin" or the lower part of the face (“cheeks”), non-smoker and able to maintain a daily skincare routine (to prolong the effect of your surgery).

HOW IS IT DONE?
In fact, there are several surgical techniques for performing a facelift. Thus, the choice depends on the type of result that is intended, the patient's characteristics, and the surgeon's experience.

The face lifting is performed under general anesthesia, and hospitalization can be from 24 to 48 hours.
The incision (cut with a scalpel) starts in the temporal region, in front of the hair, passes through the lowest part of the ear, and continues behind it. After removing the excess skin, the remaining skin is pulled up and back to give the best contour possible and the most youthful appearance to the face.

CAN FACE LIFTING / RHYTIDECTOMY BE PERFORMED WITHOUT SCARS?
Like any surgery, a facelift cannot be performed without scarring.
Despite this, the latest techniques allow hiding the scar so that it is not easily visible. Also, scars become less evident over time.
Your Plastic Surgeon will be able to advise you on the best way to treat your scars.

WHAT ARE THE ADVERSE EFFECTS?
The most frequent adverse effects are transient (transient) and disappear spontaneously. The most frequent is ecchymosis (bruising) and edema (swelling). The bruises usually disappear within 2 to 3 weeks, and the swelling progressively improves within the first 4 weeks.

Sometimes there may be numbness (which progressively improves within 2 to 4 weeks) or small irregularities in the skin, which will lessen over time.

WHAT IS THE RESULT OF A FACE-LIFTING / RHYTIDECTOMY?
The result of face lifting is reducing sagging and facial wrinkles, improving and smoothing the face contours, and improving your self-esteem, giving you a younger and more relaxed appearance.

However, the final result will only be visible from 4 to 6 weeks after the surgery. The face is completely deflated, without bruises, and the skin has already acquired its usual tone.
To obtain the desired result, it is essential to comply with the postoperative recommendations.

Small touch-ups (filling with hyaluronic acid or fat) or scar corrections may be necessary, especially if a facelift has been performed on very flaccid skin.

WHAT IS THE CARE AFTER SURGERY?
Usually, the patient is discharged within one to two days after surgery and can recover in the comfort of their own home. Only when the patient complains of indisposition or dizziness, more days of hospitalization may be necessary.

Facelift Newport Beach recommend the use of a compressive facial band for a period of 1 to 2 months to avoid edema (“swelling”) and bruises (“bruises”). Its use must be continuous for the first 2 weeks and then discontinued (use at home and night).

It is also advisable to perform manual lymphatic drainage to speed up recovery, improve comfort and reduce the edema and fibrosis associated with the surgery.

WHEN CAN YOU RESUME ACTIVITY / DAILY ROUTINE AFTER FACE LIFTING / RHYTIDECTOMY?
The return to your family life at home is done after 24 or 48 hours.

After 7 days, you can put on your usual make-up and creams.
Generally, the return to professional activity is done about 15 to 20 days after surgery. In some cases, it may take a little longer due to the extent of edema (swelling) and ecchymosis (bruising).

WILL I BE BETTER AFTER PERFORMING SURGERY?
Face lifting/rhytidectomy is a surgical intervention that aims to improve your physical appearance and also boost your self-esteem. However, the new image you will acquire will not change, by itself, all other areas of your life (professional, family, social), so it is essential to have this awareness.

In fact, emotional balance is essential for undergoing surgical intervention, especially if this is of an aesthetic nature.
